Kano ANPP please don’t mock democratic process

The conduct of ANPP governorship primary in Kano State, which saw the emergence of Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin (Little) as the ANPP gubernatorial candidate is rumoured to have been cancelled.
The recent rumour in town is that "Little" will step down for a candidate that up till now has not join the party and that the deputy governor slot will be taken by another candidate that did not up till now also join the party.
Any attempt whatsoever to impose "foreign" candidates on ANPP in Kano will be a mockery of the democratic process of conducting primaries; abuse of process and procedures, which will eventually spell doom for the party in the state, and it would not be accepted. Why in the first place did the party waste time, energy and resources to conduct its convention? Why should due process and procedure be bastardised and reduced to personal interest and selfish agenda? Or is it that Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin (Little) is not competent?
All interest groups or people who want PDP to be voted out in Kano State should join the ship captained by Alhaji Ali Amin (Little) as Kano State ANPP gubernatorial candidate. For qualitative health, education, economic empowerment etc. Anything short of this will be very unhealthy for the ANPP in Kano State.
Shehu Mustapha Chaji,

Wake up call for the masses

The constant religious and communal crises in Nigeria are the creation of the elites who directly or indirectly promote such crises for their selfish means. Nigeria is a multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic nation which is the creation of the former British colonial imperialists who amalgamated the northern and sourthern protectorates for cheaper and easier administrative purposes without caring to put in place mechanisms that would bring about tolerance and understanding to the different strange bed follows that will stay together as one people. The Nigerian people either Muslims or Christian have the same enemies. These enemies include our political leaders (either civilians or military) traditional rulers, religious leaders and their cohorts who partake in the wanton corruption and outright stealing of national wealth for their personal and selfish ends. At the centre, the ruling elites and their cohorts sit together without religious and tribal differences to get what they want and after returning to their different places they preach hatred and animosity to confuse and deceive their followers. The frequent crises give the elites especially the political class cover to loot more as attention is always shifted from developmental issues to how to solve the crises, as witnessed in the case of the suspended Governor Dariye of Plateau state who for months could not even pay salaries and has a very poor performance in office.Since the first occurance of religious/tribal conflict during the military dictatorship of General Ibrahim Babangida who refused to use political will to solve the problem, it has led to further occurrences such as in Zango Kataf, Tafawa Balewa, Numan, Kano etc. The present controlled PDP government for the past five years has also failed to solve the religious/tribal conflict after its first occurrence in Shagamu.President Obasanjo who’s administration has witnessed the killing of thousands of Nigerians could not stop it due to lack of political will to deal with the situation.Nigerians of different tribes and religious background should be wise to understand that they have the same enemy or common enemy and should collectively challenge and oppose them instead of shedding innocent blood. Nigerians should be concerned with how they can develop the country and stop fighting we should be asking question like. How can we have good governance and how can we bring about sanity in our democracy? When Northerners were ruling the country, the common Northerner did not have special benefits and privileges and now with President Obasanjo, the life of the ordinary Yoruba-man has not changed. The Nigerian people collectively have a common enemy which is not religious or communal and as such they should shine their eyes well-well.

THE BAD AND UGLY FOR 2007

Eventhough 2007 election is a bit far away and INEC has not yet lift the ban for 2007 campaign ,those angling for various elective posts are directly or indirectly widening their area of influence . Among those eyeing the presidential seat are former military dictator President,General Ibrahim Babangida and Vice President Atiku Abubakar.Their supporters are trying all they could to convience Nigerians that their candidate is the best .Different kinds of organisations and associations are springing up to garner support for them as it has become a sort of venture that some monies could be pocketed in this trying period of economic hardship and widespread poverty . But the quetions to ask are ,what has the evil genius ,General Babangida and handbag of the President ,Vice President Atiku Abubakar have to offer to Nigerians ? General Ibrahim Babangida has ruled this nation for eight years .During his regime among other things for the first time Nigerians understand what really is poverty ,thanks to his Structural Adjustment Proggramme (S.A.P).Naira looses its value to foreingn currencies ,workers were retrenched, religious and communal crisis became order of the day ,politicians were ban and unbanned ,corruption was instittutionalised , students ewre killed all over the country during Ango Must Go struggle ,opponents were thrown into prisons and some died in mysterious circumstances ,democracy was raped and brutalised which led to June 12 crisis et.c. Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the second citizen of the presnt administration .An administration that has forced down the throats of Nigerians cycle of increases of petroleum products, noted for corruption and was awarded first, second and third positions globally ,frequently ehno-religious crisis that had led thousands to their early graves ,insecurity which led prominent Nigerians to be among those assasinated and yet the goverment could not bring to book the culprits .He has never voiced out his opposition to the various policies that on the day increase poverty and untold haedship to Nigerians. The agitation for the presidency to return to Northern part of the country will be a clamour in vain as the two major contenders for now cannot boast of improving the lives of common Nigerians talkless of the North. The two duos cannot alleviate the sufferings of pauparised Nigerians as they all had the oppurtunity to better the lot of the common man but had prefer to look the other way . General Ibrahim Babangida and Vice President Atiku Abubakar are not for now the types of leaders that we want to return Nigerian back on track to economic well-being ,development and security after President Obasanjo in 2007. Nigerians at this stage had to take their destinies into their hands .The meagre amount giving to some to collabrate in imposing leaders that do not care about improving their lives should have a second thought. The various anti-people policies since when General Babangida seize power continues down to the present administration which he (Babangida)played a significant role in making sure that President Obasanjo took over from General Abdulsalam Abubakar.General Babangida had never once spoke on behalf of the Nigerian people that the masses are suffering. And for the first time in our history as a nation many are commoting suicide as they could no longer cope with the harsh condition of living today in Nigeria. As for Vice President Atiku he is part and parcel of all the goods or wrongs of this administration. Nigerians should know that the coming generations of unborn Nigerians will never forgive us if we fold our hands and allow our country to be pauparised through institionalization of poverty as the two duos are birds of the same feathers.
Yoursfaithfully
Shehu Mustapha Chaji

Ibrahim Little and P.D.P

The media recently carried the news that Alhaji Ibrahim Amin Little has decamped to People Democratic Party (P.D.P).The news came as a great shock to many of us who are supporters and admirers of Ibrahim Little. In the year 2003 and even before it, Alhaji Ibrahim Little happens to be not only a ANPP state Chairman in Kano but also the gubernatorial candidate of the party before some circumstances shove him aside and Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau replaced him and won the election as Kano state Governor. Though Alhaji Ibrahim Little decamped to P.R.P and contested as the party gubernatorial candidate .The news about his decampment to P.D.P is very disturbing and uncalled for as it clearly portrays him as a floating politician, an opportunist and seem to lack proper knowledge of what party politics is all about. His decampment to P.R.P then could be excused as out of anger, frustration and disappointment as what happens that led to his loosing out in power play .What justifications and reasons does Alhaji Ibrahim Little has to join P.D.P whose antecedents for the more than five years in power had been continuous introducing policies that day after day increases sufferings and hardships to the Nigerian people. The party whose trademark had been cycles of incensement in petroleum products, insecurity as never before in our history, corruption that led to awards of international medals ,we can go on listing them. And also the P.D.P in Kano which had not known peace within itself and divided into sects led by different strange bed fellows.Alhaji Ibrahim Little ,you had disappointed your supporters and admirers by joining the P.D.P. Also this act if you are not cautious will led you to early political graveyard. If the penniless could outsmart you in power play and frustrate you out of ANPP,how can you contend with political giants in Kano P.D.P such as Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, Hon. Ghali Na’abba, Alhaji Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, Alhaji Aminu Wali and Alhaji Musa Gwadabe? How can you outsmart Alhaji Aminu Dabo, Hon. Ghali Na’abba, Senator Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, Dr. Yakubu DanHassan (when he returns to P.D.P) e.t.c in P.D.P gubernatorial primary if you still have the intention to contest for governorship under P.D.P in 2007? Which of the P.D.P sects will you squat with? Alhaji Ibrahim Little, return to the first house you help to build and stop drifting further into political wilderness. Be on the positive side of history, politics is more than seeking platforms to contest for elective offices or to campaign for a presidential candidate who deep down in your heart you knows is unpopular in Kano and is unsaleable to any right minded person that hopes well for Nigeria and its people.

WAITING FOR OUR ROSA PARKS

Civil rights icon Rosa Parks, the black seamstress who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery , bus to a Whiteman sparked a revolution in American race relations. She died recently at the age of 92 years .Her refusal to succumb to segregation and discrimination because of her skin color sparked up the movement that put an end to segregation against blacks in America.

She is now a symbol of resistance against white segregation , her boldness and resistance against inequality by her fellow country men led to a resistance by her fellow blacks to resist inhuman treatment ,injustice ,domination ,exploitation ,inequality and segregation which made blacks to become second class citizens in their own country.

Nigeria , which is a country of the same race "blacks" with a population of about 120 million people , is presently in the same condition that Rosa Parks found herself in the 1960"s in the United States .But how is Nigeria related to Rosa Parks condition in the 1960"s when we are all of the same black race ? Is segregation to be found in the present day Nigeria in the 21st century ? These are the questions with which this write-up will make an attempt to link that period in United States of America’s history to Nigerians conditions in the present time.

Nigeria is a nation blessed with abundant human and natural resources , and is the sixth country in producing crude oil in the whole world . Unfortunately , abject poverty can be seen with naked eyes in this country .The is inequality and segregation between the ruling class and the masses.

The segregated masses in Nigeria have hospitals that are more or less consulting clinics, while the ruling elites and their families travel abroad just for medical check-ups. Children of the Masses attend schools that are ruined buildings or under the tree without tables , chairs and necessary teaching materials with teachers that are not paid their meagre salaries for months , while the children of the elites attend private owned schools that their classes are fully air conditioned!!! The masses lives in ghetto’s where there is no water and epileptic power supply and totally unhygienic for human beings to live decently and while the elites live in polished reserved areas.

The masses have been chased out of the Federal capital (Abuja) as the master demolisher in the name of town planning had destroyed all what the masses managed as their homes and sources of living hood. Abuja , the federal capital of Nigeria is only for the elites. What kind of segregation! Masses in Nigeria are even segregated in places of worships. The front seats and first rows of churches and mosques are reserved for the powerful ruling elites who come to places of worship with their stern armed looking security personnel. The masses means of transportation still remains donkeys, bicycles ,lorries, rickety buses and Okada while the ruling elites and their cronies ride in polished ,dark exotic cars that the price of one single car can purchase the whole of the cars owned by a transport company.

When masses in Nigeria managed to obtain western education there is no employment as even the ones presently employed in government institutions are being retrenched in mass, the elites children are C.E.O’s , M.D’s , G.M’s e.t.c of multi-billions companies that were established with ill-gotten money that had been looted from our national treasury by their parents .These are few areas mentioned that masses in Nigeria have been segregated which if the wealth of the country will be evenly distributed at least there will be no abject poverty in the country.

When will Nigerians rise up to resist this sort of inequality and segregation in their motherland? When will an incident such as that of Rosa Parks occur and the whole Nigerian masses rise to obtain their freedom, dignity and honor to be regarded and accepted as fellow equal human beings in our collective country? When will our Martin Luther King (Jr) emerge with a dream of liberating his fellow countrymen from clutches of suppression, oppression, exploitation, domination and inflation ?

How long will be our waiting for our Rosa Parks? Though we had so many that had led the part of Martin Luther King (Jr)but due to the Nigerian "factor" their movements are either terminated by military incursion or by crushing such movements with force, imprisonment, Naira and political appointments.

The Nigerian masses and history of freedom and liberation will never forget those Nigerians that rose to defend the common man ,prominent among them are Mallam Aminu Kano, who fought against the feudal lords in the North whose styles of oppression and injustice will be mistaken for fairy tale, Chief Gani Fawehinmi who for decades had been in the fore-front of fighting against injustice which made prison to be his second home during the military era .History will also not forget those prominent sons of Nigeria that stood for the masses rights, Mallam Sa"adu Zungur ,Dr.Tai Solarin, Prof.Wole Soyinka,Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, Col.Abubakar Dangiwa Umar,Comrade Adams Oshimole,Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Rev.Olubunmi O kogie and Dr.Yusuf Bala Usman.

Really for sure things will change some day and Nigerian masses will not be segregated and turned to second class citizens in their own country where there will be enough food for all ,good roads and transport network, comfortable shelter, constant water and power supply ,employment and job security and conducting free and fair elections.

Yours truly
